FRED R. MAXWELL JR. AWARD

  • Description: The Fred R. Maxwell Awardee is selected based on overall performance, including GPA, research involvement, technical society involvement, etc.
  • Number of Awards: 1
  • Eligibility: ECE Junior
  • Deadline: January 15 of every year
  • Application Process: Student can self-nominate, or be nominated by a faculty member. The student or the faculty member should email the ECE Awards Committee Chair before the deadline a single PDF document containing: (i) a cover letter, (ii) a resume, and (iii) a list of 3 references with contact information.

CAPSTONE ENGINEERING SOCIETY (CES) OUTSTANDING SENIOR AWARD

  • Description: One EE and one CEO undergraduate student are recognized by the ECE Department as departmental nominees to the Capstone Engineering Society. Selected students should have shown superior performance in academics, professional and technical activities, and leadership. One overall winner will then be selected among all departmental nominees by CES representatives as the CES Outstanding Senior for the UA College of Engineering.
  • Number of Awards: 1 EE and 1 CEO
  • Eligibility: ECE Senior
  • Deadline: January 15 of every year
  • Application Process: Student can self-nominate, or be nominated by a faculty member. The student should email the ECE Awards Committee Chair before the deadline the following information: (i) scholarships received; (ii) academic honors received (Dean’s List, Honor Societies, etc.); (iii) up to 3 recommendation letters from faculty, employers, or organizations you’ve volunteered at; (iv) professional work experience, technical papers or presentations, research activities, leadership experience, and/or volunteer activities; (v) a 90 second video clip that demonstrates what you’re most passionate about and explain why; (vi) a short (250 words or less) essay answering ‘why should you represent the College of Engineering as it s Outstanding Senior?’; (vii) additional information you would like the selection committee to consider (future plans, resume, etc…).

ALABAMA SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS (ASPE) STUDENT ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

  • Description: The top overall ECE undergraduate student and top overall ECE graduate student are recognized as the ECE Department nominees to the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers.  These nominees are selected based on overall GPA, research involvement, student involvement in ECE Department activities, leadership, scholarship, etc. All nominees will then be invited and recognized at the Engineers Council of Birmingham (ECOB) Banquet in Birmingham in February.
  • In addition, ECOB will judge all nominees in the six categories listed below with their weight factors. The ECOB Student Engineer of the Year Award and the ECOB Graduate Student Engineer of the Year Award will also be recognized at the Banquet.
