ECE Students Return from Summer Research in the Czech Republic

Six undergraduate students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are back on campus for the fall semester after spending 12 weeks this summer conducting research at the Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic. Joyce Ma, Cayla Shipman, Dylan Meersman, Christopher Wagner, Alexandra Trigg, and Nicholas Cubitt traveled to Brno as the fifth cohort of the NSF-supported International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) site led by Dr. Todd Freeborn, and the first cohort under the program’s recent renewal, Design and Characterization of Fractional-Order Microelectronic Circuits and Devices in Czechia.

Hosted at BUT under the coordination of Dr. Jaroslav Koton, the students spent the summer designing, fabricating, and characterizing fractional-order circuits and devices and exploring their applications in analog signal processing, gaining hands-on research experience and international collaboration skills that reach well beyond the classroom. The department congratulates these students on an outstanding summer of work and welcomes them home. The IRES site is supported by NSF Award #2505179.
