UA Advances Nanoscale Discovery with New NSF-Funded Spectroscopic Imaging System

Dr. Patrick Kung leads a new Major Research Instrumentation award that brings an advanced nano-spectroscopic imaging system to the University of Alabama. This first-in-the-region platform delivers unparalleled nanoscale spectroscopic imaging by integrating co-localized Scanning Probe Microscopy with Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS) and Tip-Enhanced Photoluminescence (TEPL).

The system expands existing opportunities for multi-campus collaboration, accelerates discoveries in electronics, energy, biology, and geoscience, and strengthens hands-on training for undergraduate and graduate students. This award is funded by the National Science Foundation.
