Message from the Department Head

Dr. Tim Haskew

Welcome to UA’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Our department’s vision is to be nationally recognized for high-quality educational programs and research through focused activities and excellence of its faculty, staff, graduates and facilities. We will achieve this vision through fostering the education of stellar students and by contributing to the base of electrical engineering research.

First, we prioritize teaching students through our continuously-accredited electrical and computer engineering degree programs. Undergraduate electrical engineering students have access to a wide array of subjects, including communication, computers, control systems, electronics, electric circuits, electromechanics, electromagnetics, microelectronics, and power systems. Computer engineering students are exposed to the broad spectrum electrical engineering and computer science courses with an emphasis on embedded systems. In addition, we have formal programs that lead to double major bachelor of science degrees between computer engineering or electrical engineering and mathematics, as well as electrical engineering and physics. Furthermore, we have a department-based honors program, which augments the University Honors Program or Computer-Based Honors Program, bringing tough challenges to those students with high academic standing.

Second, our on-campus graduate programs are research oriented and lead toward the degrees of master of science and doctor of philosophy. Graduate-student instruction and research facilities are available in embedded systems, electromechanical systems, and devices and materials. Through these three core research areas, our faculty are expanding the base of knowledge through numerous referred publications.

I hope you will browse through our website, and contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Tim Haskew, Ph.D.
